Digital X-Rays
We have switched to digital x-rays from conventional film x-rays for a number of reasons, including:
- They are safer because they use a much lower amount of radiation. In fact, digital x-rays use 90% less radiation than conventional film x-rays.
- The images are better because they are magnified onto a computer monitor, making it much easier for the doctor to see things and to explain things to the patient. No more tiny little films.
- They are faster because there is no development process. The digital image appears instantly on the computer monitor.
Intraoral Camera
Have you ever wondered what a cavity looks like, or a broken tooth, or what tartar looks like on your teeth? With the intraoral camera, you can see what the doctor sees. It is a tiny camera that fits comfortably in your mouth and allows Dr. LaMura and his staff to show you an enlarged image on the computer screen. The tip of the wand, where the camera is located, is covered with a disposable plastic sheath that keeps the procedure sterile and comfortable. Intraoral camera images can help you understand why you need to have certain procedures done and helps Dr. LaMura and his staff explain what options are available to you.
Dental magnification (loupes) and lighting
Since quality dental care requires precision and clear visualization in very small spaces, Dr. LaMura uses high magnification loupes and the brightest illumination available to provide the best treatment possible. The magnification helps to elevate the quality of work and increases the efficiency, while reducing treatment time.
Electric dental handpieces
Electric handpieces eliminate the high pitch whine when compared to traditional drills, while providing quicker, more precise filling preparation.
CAESY Multimedia Patient Education Software
Watch videos that describe and explain every dental procedure done in our office. Not sure what a crown is, or what a veneer is, or why you need a certain procedure? The CAESY software is on the treatment room computers and can show you a brief video of any procedure to help you understand.
PrepStart air abrasion system
If you have very small cavities, you may be a candidate for the PrepStart. The PrepStart is an air abrasion system that can remove decay in teeth without the use of anesthesia (no needle!) and with virtually no pain. The PrepStart is much more conservative than a conventional drill and will cut a cavity prep as small as half the width of a regular dental bur. PrepStart procedures may only take a matter of minutes or seconds.
